Domino's Gluten-Free Pizza Review
Dominos Gluten Free Pizza

Product Name: Domino's Gluten-Free Pizza

Product Description: Domino’s Gluten-free pizza doesn’t look much different from their regular thin crust pizza, except in size. It’s a little darker in color, slightly gritty, and chewy in texture- more doughy than I prefer. The crust also has a slightly sweet flavor that you might not notice with all the toppings, but if you eat it without cheese and sauce, you can taste the sweetness.

Fast-food restaurants are getting increasingly better at offering menu items that customers can enjoy with food sensitivities and dietary restrictions. Celiac disease increases by about 7.5% each year in the United States, and besides that, a growing number of people are reporting gluten-sensitivities. Domino’s Pizza is one of the major fast-food chains now offering a gluten-free crust option to its customers. While this is a great idea, the crust is still made in a shared prep area where regular pizzas are made, so customers will need to use discretion. Let’s see how this crust stacks up in our Domino’s Gluten-Free Pizza review.

History and Inspiration

Domino’s has sided with other chains offering gluten-free options for those who want to reduce gluten in their diet.  Their Gluten-Free Crust contains no wheat, rye, or barley and has a gluten content of less than 20ppm.

Types of Domino’s Gluten-Free Pizza

The gluten-free crust can only be ordered as a 10-inch pie, so there are no size variations. But you can order this crust with any of your favorite toppings, just like you can choose thin-crust or cheese-stuffed crust.

Domino’s Gluten-Free Pizza Review

According to Domino’s website, the gluten-free crust is made from water, rice starch, rice flour, potato starch, and olive oil.

1.      Taste and Texture [3.5/5]

Domino’s Gluten-free pizza doesn’t look much different from their regular thin crust pizza, except in size. It’s a little darker in color, slightly gritty, and chewy in texture- more doughy than I prefer. The crust also has a slightly sweet flavor that you might not notice with all the toppings, but if you eat it without cheese and sauce, you can taste the sweetness. The best thing to do if you want to get a good feel of the crust is to take a bite from the edge first- like you would with a cheese-stuffed crust pizza. It’s more doughy than bread-y, so it’s not my favorite, but it’s a great option.

2. Are they healthy? [3/5]

Domino’s has an entire FAQ page on their website about their gluten-free pizza, as well as a disclaimer about how they can’t guarantee it’s safe to consume if a customer has Celiac’s Disease. The issue is that pizza made with Gluten-Free crust is prepared in a shared kitchen with the risk of gluten exposure. Therefore, Domino’s doesn’t recommend this pizza for customers with Celiac disease.

3. Are they Worth it? [4/5]

The good thing is that you can choose any toppings you like with this crust option. It comes only in a 10-inch size, so if it’s just for one or maybe two people, it should be enough. I’d recommend purchasing two pizzas if more than two people will be eating it, and you’ll likely want to add a side dish with it to be more filling. Unfortunately, a bigger size isn’t available, and it’s a bit expensive, but if you’re craving pizza and you have a gluten sensitivity, it’s worth it.

To order Domino’s Gluten-free pizza online, you’ll begin at the Menu Home page and scroll to the “Delight & Gluten-Free” section. Click “Customize” on “Gluten-Free Select Your Own” and add your toppings. You’ll notice that gluten-free options are labeled. Click “add to order,” and you’re ready to go.

Final Verdict

Domino’s pizza made with a Gluten-Free Crust is prepared in a shared kitchen with the risk of gluten exposure. While it’s suitable for those looking to reduce their gluten intake, it’s not necessarily safe for someone with Celiac Disease (per The National Foundation for Celiac Awareness). Customers with gluten sensitivities should exercise judgment in consuming this pizza. It tastes pretty good, compared to some other gluten-free meals I’ve tried, but it’s a bit more expensive than a regular pizza. The good thing is that the chain is making strides to offer customers options with dietary sensitivities, which I can appreciate.

Domino’s Gluten-Free Pizza Nutrition Facts

The nutritional info will vary based on the toppings you choose, but since pepperoni is the most popular topping, the following nutrition facts are based on a serving of Gluten-Free Pepperoni Pizza.

Domino’s Gluten-Free Pizza Pricing

For comparison’s sake, the 10-inch gluten-free pizza is $10.49, and the regular 10-inch pie is $7.49. That’s a significant price difference. Besides that, a 10-inch traditional crust can be upgraded to a 12-inch for just $0.50 more, but a gluten-free pizza cannot be upgraded to a bigger size. There are no deals associated with the gluten-free pizza either, so this is a bit pricey.

I find your gluten free pizza the best of any that I have had. I think it is a little pricey and try to buy is only if I can get a special price because it is smaller than regular pizza.
