Sonic Ocean Water Recipe

Despite its name, Sonic Ocean Water tastes nothing like the ocean – which is a good thing. It’s blue and tropical though, similar to a piña colada soda, and it’s become a favorite for those who enjoy coconut and Caribbean flavors. The soda gives this drink a tangy flavor, while the coconut extract adds some tropical beachy flair – good for those of us who aren’t quite ready to let the summer come to an end. The secret to the blue tint is a few drops of food coloring; or if you can find blue coconut syrup, this is exactly what Sonic uses in their recipe.

Now that you know the secrets, you can create the Sonic Ocean Water recipe from home. Want your refreshing drink to feel even more like the real deal? Include Sonic’s “nugget” ice or “pellet” ice instead of homemade ice cubes. Regular ice works just fine too.

Sonic Ocean water can be made for groups and parties, and especially weekend brunches. Your friends will love the Caribbean ocean blue hue and the tropical flavors, and it’s definitely an Instagram-worthy drink. You could even add a shot of rum or vodka for the adults.

  • 1 tbsp coconut extract
  • 1 liter Sprite

  • ice

Instructions

Notes

  • If you really want your ocean water recipe to mimic Sonic's, you can use Sonic's "nugget" ice in place of ice cubes.
  • If this recipe is too sweet for your taste, you can reduce the amount of sugar or add more Sprite.
