Despite its name, Sonic Ocean Water tastes nothing like the ocean – which is a good thing. It’s blue and tropical though, similar to a piña colada soda, and it’s become a favorite for those who enjoy coconut and Caribbean flavors. The soda gives this drink a tangy flavor, while the coconut extract adds some tropical beachy flair – good for those of us who aren’t quite ready to let the summer come to an end. The secret to the blue tint is a few drops of food coloring; or if you can find blue coconut syrup, this is exactly what Sonic uses in their recipe.

Sonic Ocean Water Recipe
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup water
- 273 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp coconut extract
- 1 liter Sprite
- 8 drops blue food coloring
- ice
Instructions
- Place the water and sugar into a glass bowl and microwave for 45 seconds. Take it out and stir until sugar is dissolved.
- Pour the sugar water into a pitcher and add the coconut extract, soda, and food coloring. Mix well.
- Put a handful of ice into each serving glass, pour the ocean water over the ice, and enjoy.
Notes
- If you really want your ocean water recipe to mimic Sonic's, you can use Sonic's "nugget" ice in place of ice cubes.
- If this recipe is too sweet for your taste, you can reduce the amount of sugar or add more Sprite.
