Ingredients

For the Biscuit Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 2 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 stick salted butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cup mild or medium cheddar cheese, shredded
Biscuit Topping Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 tbsp salted butter, melted
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Equipment

  • standing mixer

Method

  1. First, preheat oven to 450 degrees, and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In the bowl of a standing mixer, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder. Mix until the ingredients are combined. Next, add in the melted butter, but save a bit to brush over the top after the biscuits have been baked.
  3. Next, slowly pour in the buttermilk to avoid splashing. Mix again until all of the ingredients are blended. Add the cheddar cheese, and mix again briefly.
  4. Using a large spoon, place big rounded scoops of biscuit dough onto the lined cookie sheets. There will be enough dough for 12 medium biscuits. Then bake for 10 minutes.
  5. After the biscuits have baked, remove them from the oven and gently brush the melted butter topping over them. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Be sure to include the baking powder to this recipe, which helps the biscuits to rise and gives them the fluffy texture.
  • If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own. Take ½ tbsp of plain vinegar or lemon juice and add ¾ cup of 2% milk. Stir it well and then let it rest.
  • You could also make these biscuits in batches and use them for a few meals. They will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
