Method
- Cook chow mein noodles, but do not include spice packets. Drain.
- Cut onions and cabbage into thin, long strips.
- Chop celery into small slivers.
- Heat pan with oil on medium-high heat.
- Sautee veggies - onion, celery, and cabbage.
- Once the vegetables are caramelized, stir add the chow mien noodles to the pan.
- Add remaining ingredients (soy sauce and oyster sauce) and stir until the sauce coats the noodles and veggies.
- Toss in any additional ingredients - chicken, steak, shrimp, etc.
Notes
- To find the chow mein noodles, look int he Asian food section of your grocery store. Yakisoba noodles are some of the easiest to make (they almost look like ramen noodles), which is why I always use those. You can also order the noodles on Amazon.
- If you don't have olive oil, canola or vegetable oil will work.
- Many chow mein recipes call for red and green bell pepper, as well as green onions. While it won't be exactly like Panda Express' recipe if you toss those in, they are delicious additions if you want a bit more flavor.
- Can't find chow mein noodles? Try whole wheat spaghetti or fettuccine noodles instead.
