As a big fan of bacon cheeseburgers, I enjoy all combinations of toppings, vegetables, sauces, spices – the works. I like fresh buns, crispy bacon, juicy beef, and melted cheeses of any variety. Fast-food franchises have a tougher job than casual or fine dining restaurants in that they need to serve fresh burgers to a large volume of customers daily. But Burger King seems to be doing just fine, and the Bacon Double Cheeseburger has been a BK favorite for almost four decades.
Bringin’ Home the Bacon
Burger King released its first Bacon Double Cheeseburger in 1982, and they have been serving up various combinations of this popular profit-making menu item ever since. From mega-sizes to limited editions to triple-deckers, the flavorful beef patty and the bacon flavor combination is a long-time favorite for Burger King fans.
How Can We Change It Up?
The Bacon Double Cheeseburger stands well on its own, but thankfully, BK prides itself on customizing orders for customers. You could add or omit vegetables, toppings, or sauces as you like. However, if you prefer to order a burger from the menu without all the extra details, you could order a Bacon Cheeseburger, which includes just one beef patty; or you could order a Bacon & Cheese WHOPPER, which comes with all the crispy veggies. You could also order the Bacon Double Cheeseburger as a combo meal with fries and a drink.
Standing the Test of Time
Long gone are the days when bacon was eaten only as a breakfast item. Now bacon is the star of so many other delicious meals- breakfasts, lunches, dinners, or snacks. Bacon exploded as a popular burger component in the late 1990s, and it hasn’t slowed down since.
Burger King’s Bacon Double Cheeseburger features two flame-grilled beef patties topped with strips of smoked bacon and a slice of melted American cheese. Crinkle cut pickles, mustard, and ketchup on a fresh warm bun make this a hearty burger for an afternoon lunch on the go. But does it taste good? Let’s see.
1. Taste and Texture [4/5]
The Bacon Double Cheeseburger is a flavorful burger, without the overpowering meatiness that some of the other bacon burgers out there have. I tend to shy away from ordering burgers served with double patties because it’s too much meat for me, but these patties were thin and flavorful.
The smokey bacon strips were crispy, giving a nice crunch to the bite, and they complimented the beef patties well. I love the combination of mustard, mayo, and ketchup on my burgers, so the sauces were on point for me, with just the perfect amount of each. There were only two slices of crinkled pickles, which was a bit of a bummer because I love pickles, but they were two delicious bites.
The burger comes with one slice of American cheese. Mine was melted to one of the patties, which I prefer over the cold, unmelted cheese you get from many fast-food chains. And my bun was soft, warm and fresh, with just the slightest hint of oil across the top. I did not have a sesame seed bun, which I think is more common, but for me, freshness is what counts.
The burger is not too heavy in oils or density like I expected. It had just the right amount of thickness and weight to it. I could fit it into my mouth without mashing it together or breaking it, and overall, it was a really tasty fast-food burger.
2. Are they Healthy? [2.5/5]
The Bacon Double Cheeseburger is not the healthiest burger available, given the amount of high saturated fats. With roughly 400 calories, nearly half of them from fat, this is an average fast-food burger in terms of nutrition. It can be modified to be keto-friendly by ordering it without buns or ketchup.
The only vegetables offered on this burger are pickles, but they don’t contribute to the nutritional value of the burger. Fun fact: pickles are only considered to be vegetables because of their bitter-sour fermented taste, but they are fruit.
The Bacon Double Cheeseburger is prepared using equipment used for products that contain soy, and they can contain milk, soy, or wheat, so customers may want to make a note of this in case of food allergies or restrictions.
3. Are they Worth it? [4/5]
My Bacon Double Cheeseburger was delicious. I split it with one of my kids, so I could also enjoy medium fries and a drink without feeling too full. The burger isn’t big, but it’s thick with its two juicy beef patties and bacon. I enjoy the taste of meat and bacon together – it’s like combining two strong tastes for one powerful bite.
However, I prefer burgers with more crisp cool vegetables, so next time I would “make it my way” and ask for tomatoes, lettuce, and onion. It might bump the cost up a bit, but the burger is already a great value at $2.29 (give or take a few cents, depending on the city you’re ordering from). Even without fries and a drink, it would have been a big enough lunch for me.
Would I order the Bacon Double Cheeseburger Again?
Yes! The burger was a great value, it was tasty, the size was perfect, and it had just the right amount of juices to be flavorful without dripping with oils. The bacon was crisp, and even though the strips were a bit small, I got a taste of bacon with each bite. It wasn’t messy, so I could eat it on the go, and the bun was fresh and delicious.

What Do You Think?
Burger King offers a few different menu options that include bacon. What is your favorite bacon/patty/veggie combination? Do you order a combo or value meal? Or is the burger enough for you? Let us know in the comments below.
I tend to refrain from fast food in general. My mother was starving while visiting and we were in a hurry, so I sent her to BK to get me a Double Bacon Cheeseburger without ketchup. She came back with two over cooked patties with a ton of ketchup, and no bacon nor cheese. Nothing else! I know 3 year olds who can do better than that! I wasn’t expecting much but this was utterly disgusting so I tossed it.
